The Flatiron Building is my favourite place in Manhattan.
This 22-story, 87−meter−high, triangular-shaped skyscraper rises at the corner of 5th Avenue and Broadway. It was built in 1902 to house the headquarters of Fuller Construction Company. The owner of the company named it Fuller Building but the buiIding itself is known as The Flatiron, for its iron shape.
It was designed by architect DanieI Hudson Burnham. It was built in a year and New Yorkers thought that, given its steel structure, it wouId not withstand the strong winds of Manhattan. From Beaux Art style, the facade is made of glazed terracotta and Iimestone. In its rounded vertex, it is 2 meters wide and its sides form a 25−degree angIe.
Declared a National Monument, The Flatiron, an icon of New York, appears in movies and television. It’s an office building.
