Strasbourg, together with Geneva and New York, houses international institutions without being the State capital.

The city was chosen as the “Capital of Europe” after World War II as a symbol of unity and reconciliation among citizens. It is the headquarters of:

European Parliament

The legislative institution of the European Union, the only one chosen by European citizens, whom it represents.

It is located in a glass, wood and metal building finished in 1999 that includes a hemicycle, 18 boardrooms and 1,133 offices.

Free, group or individual visits include the Simone Veil parlamentarium.

The Council of Europe

It is the institution responsible for protecting human rights, as well as dealing with social affairs, culture, education and the environment.

It was created in 1949, making it  the oldest institution in the European continent. And it has 47 member states of which 28 are from the European Union.

Free visits must be booked in advance.

European Court of Human Rights

It is the highest judicial authority in Europe that guarantee human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The building was inaugurated in 1995, and is a  work of the British architect Sir Richard Rogers.

Informative sessions are organised to professionals and law students through prior reservation, via the electronic form.
