My favourite place in Vilnius is walking around the church of Saint Anne, the church of Saint Francis Assisi (Bernardine) and the Bernardine Gardens. I like this area of the city, which is especially quiet.

The church of Saint Anne

The church, of late Gothic style, has been preserved almost perfectly for 500 years. On the main facade of the church, you can read the letters A and M that could be the initials of Ana Mater Maria or Ave Maria. The facade is a brick lace. The interior is sober, with colourful stained glasses. Next to the church, the bell tower that was built in the 19th century stands out.

The church of Saint Francis Assisi

It is located inside the Bernardine Monastery, of Gothic style, was converted into a warehouse during the Soviet occupation. Guided tours are organised by reservation in English, Lithuanian and Russian. There are two types of visits, one short and one long, which includes the ascent to the southeast tower (75 steps), 17 meters high, to admire the city, the Gediminas castle, the churches of the Old Town and the Three Crosses.

The Bernardine Gardens

Located among the Gediminas hill, the Vilnele stream and the Bernardine Monastery. The orchard of the Bernardino monks with medicinal plants and aromatic herbs, and the music of the fountain that sounds every fifteen minutes from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., during the week, and from 12 m to 9 p.m. on weekends and holidays, stand out.
