Located in the city center, Retiro Park is one of the most attractive parks of Madrid. It is perfect for walking, doing sport, boating, cycling, resting on a terrace or enjoying some other exhibition. Any time of year is good to visit, although during week days it is always quieter.

As points of interest, what stands out is:

  • The Casa de Vacas Cultural Center, built in 1874 as a dairy farm. Today it is a cultural center with concerts, exhibitions and theater plays.
  • The Big Pond, built in 1934. Rowing boats and solar boats can be hired.
  • The Crystal Palace, a structure of metal and glass, created on the occasion of the Flora Exhibition of the Philippines in 1887. Planned as a greenhouse, it currently houses exhibitions of the Reina Sofia Museum.
  • The Velázquez Palace, built between 1881 and 1883 on the occasion of the National Mining Exhibition. Currently used as exhibition hall of the Reina Sofia Museum.
  • The Rosaleda, a collection of roses, with more than 4,000 rose bushes, designed in 1915.

In addition, in the Retiro Park you can enjoy the Book Fair that takes place in May and June and a Puppet Theatre, next to the entrance through the Plaza de la Independencia. It is free and takes place every weekend of the year.
