We do not know if the British monarchy is the most important in the world, but it is one of the oldest, with more than twelve centuries of history.

It is currently a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary government. The highest figure is Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of the kingdoms of the Commonwealth of Nations, the Commonwealth.

What we do know is that Queen Elizabeth II is the longest-reigning British monarch, surpassing her great-great grandmother Queen Victoria, who reigned for 63 years and 7 months.

Their official London residence has been Buckingham Palace since 1837. In summer, it opens its doors and you can admire some of the royal apartments and a special exhibition that changes every year. All year you can enjoy the changing of the guard.

We can talk about other real residences:

Windsor Castle

It is the largest and oldest inhabited castle in the world. Queen Elizabeth II usually spends weekends there. Every year, the Queen organizes events during Easter, known as the “Easter Court“.

Clarence House

Located next to St James’s Palace, it was built between 1825 and 1827. It is currently the official London residence of The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.

St James’s Palace

Royal residence for more than 300 years, until the reign of Queen Victoria. Today receptions are held for charities associated with members of the Royal Family.

Holyroodhouse Palace

It is the official residence in Scotland. Every year, from the end of June to the beginning of July, the “Holyrood Week” takes place. The palace is open to the public throughout the year.

Kensington Palace

Located in London, it is the real work residence. Until 1760, it was the favourite residence of British sovereigns and the birthplace of Queen Victoria.
